Activated carbon, commonly referred to as activated charcoal, is a processed carbon with microscopic holes that enhance the overall surface area accessible for particle adsorption. It is often used to filter out big and undesirable particles in water filtration systems. Water that has been treated with activated carbon filters contains fewer pollutants and has a better taste. It eliminates impurities through an adsorption method, in which particles that pass through its porous surface cling to the surface and are removed from the water running through the activated carbon granules-filled filter bed.
